90% Online Programs Management

Course curriculum and design:

  • Develop a strategic vision for the College Online Programs, determining priorities for online course design and program development, including strategic ideas to enhance student retention and graduation for both online and on-campus students

  • Work with the Dean and Associate Deans to ensure the viability of the program vision and strategy

  • Seek input from leadership of CASS and COGA on program development plans and processes, maintaining regular communication throughout the program development process

  • Work with departments to implement online programming, including making decisions regarding incentives for course development and coordination of course design with the Center for Online and Distance Learning

  • Develop online offerings each semester in conjunction with departments, including a carousel of commonly offered courses from various departments, and contributes to decisions regarding staffing and funding of online courses

  • Coordinate with the Center for Online and Distance Learning to manage course design requests, including setting and reinforcing development expectations with the designing instructor, payment, and management of new initiatives

  • Facilitate the development of high impact opportunities available to online students in collaboration with department faculty

  • Serve on the curriculum committee for the courses and programs offered under the general Liberal Arts & Sciences umbrella

  • Perform an annual degree assessment for the liberal arts and sciences bachelor’s degree.

Student Success:

  • Oversee the student lifecycle processes for the online programs from recruitment, admission, advising, through to graduation

  • Make recommendations to the Associate Dean responsible for academic affairs regarding best practices in student success and retention efforts that can be used for online and on-campus students

  • Stay apprised of national trends in student success to ensure a high level of student retention and satisfaction for students in online programs, including handling escalated student issues raised by campus partners to ensure KU’s resources are accessible for online learners

  • Set standards and benchmarks for online student success outreach, retention, and graduation rates, in consultation with appropriate university offices

Enrollment Management:

  • Work with the Registrar’s office to ensure proper systems are in place to handle needs of incoming programs and curriculum

  • Set the reserve capacity on online courses and strategically manage enrollments in online courses, including utilizing data to make informed decisions on course offerings, course enrollment caps, and reserves

  • Manage enrollment capacity and additional class sections that serve on-campus students and students at the Edwards campus

Marketing:

  • Work with KU Marketing to ensure that College Online degree programs are represented in Jayhawk Global cohesive marketing strategy

  • Work with KU Marketing to identify high-demand degree programs

  • Ensure marketing is aligned with the KU brand, Jayhawk Global, and is coordinated with enrollment management, admissions

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree and three years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience

  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently to conceive, design, and implement new programs

  3. Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners and effectively manage relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in higher education

  2. Leadership experience directly related to student issues, with direct student contact at the college or University level with some level of supervisory experience

  3. Experience with online degree programs and/or online course design

  4. Proven ability to innovate and bring about positive change and obtain buy-in

  5. Experience working with faculty, university governance, and curriculum

  6. Knowledge of KU and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences' requirements, policies, and procedures

  7. Demonstrated experience with relevant computerized student information and communication systems

Position Overview:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLA&S) Online Programs seeks an Assistant Dean to grow strategically the portfolio of online degree offerings and student services. This position will work with the Dean and Associate Dean responsible for academic affairs in the College Dean’s Office to develop, implement, and manage a prioritized plan to maximize the College Online programs, which will be included in Jayhawk Global. This includes identifying online program development and growth opportunities based on market-demand, developing strategic ideas to enhance student retention and graduation for both online and on-campus students, and working directly with the Center for Online and Distance Learning (CODL) to develop quality online classes representative of our world-class KU faculty.

The Assistant Dean is also responsible for developing effective and innovative student outreach strategies that expands access to KU for more Kansans and other target markets. The Assistant Dean will liaise with Jayhawk Global and Jayhawk Academic Advising, College Advising & Student Services (CASS), and the College Office of Graduate Affairs (COGA). The Assistant Dean manages budgets to ensure program viability and success and to develop and implement plans for assessing program efficacy. The Assistant Dean remains current in trends in online education and student outreach and provides expert guidance to Deans and Chairs/Directors in the College about future directions in online education. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position reports to the CLA&S Associate Dean responsible for academic affairs.
