Job Description:

50% Education and Human Sciences Program and Event Coordination : Develop, plan, manage, execute, and evaluate a portfolio of special events. Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the execution of all special events to ensure standards of quality and impact to align with School’s strategic plan.

  • Determine and manage the special events calendar to distribute events strategically throughout the year.

  • Use project management skills to effectively map out and meet all deadlines, including but not limited to: calendaring, invitation preparation and distribution, programming preparation and execution, catering, vendor relationships, stakeholder briefings, volunteer management, RSVPs, payments, event inquiries, day-of event logistics and post-event follow-up.

  • Manage events budgets.

  • Develop vendor and partner relationships.

  • Coordinate with SOEHS marketing coordinator.

40% Education and Human Sciences Alumni relations: Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate plans for alumni relations. Responsibilities include:

  • Work with chairs and deans to create plans for alumni outreach.

  • Work with departments to build a list of alumni and track their professional careers.

  • Work with departments for events for departmental alumni.

  • Coordinate with the SOEHS marketing coordinator.

10% Miscellaneous Duties: Utilize event planning knowledge and management skills to perform miscellaneous duties that contribute value to the School of Education and Human Sciences, including:

  • Serve as support for fall and spring convocation.

  • Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, education, strategic communications, or relevant field.

  2. Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

  3. Excellent communication skills, especially in a customer service context, as evidenced by application materials.

  4. Evidence of excellent word processing skills, ability to maintain spreadsheets, and/or databases, as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working independently as well as in a team.

  2. Experience coordinating events within a collegiate or academic setting

  3. Four or more years of related experience.

  4. Experience designing and executing larger scale events.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the development and execution of all events hosted at the School level for the School of Education and Human Sciences (SOEHS), including several high-profile and annual events. Additionally, this position is responsible for building alumni relationships, coordinating with the departmental chairs, and creating connections with the community. This position coordinates all aspects of the events, evaluates their effectiveness and reports directly to the Assistant Dean to ensure the events implemented align with the School’s strategic event plan. This position will require some evenings and weekends as needed for different events.

This position is designated as hybrid. Flexible and occasional virtual work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines. Pay and benefits are competitive.
