Interpretation and Education Intern

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provide individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an intern who will support interpretive programming at Fort Larned National Historic Site, a crossroad of various cultures including Plains Indians, Hispanic populations, Buffalo Soldiers, and other soldiers from all over the world. The Interpretation and Education Intern would teach visitors about all aspects of Fort Learned History, the Santa Fe Trail, and the goals of the National Park Service. This intern will also have the opportunity to assist with prairie restoration projects, including removal of non-native vegetation and the study of non-native plants.

Position Responsibilities will include:

· Assisting NPS staff working at the Visitor Center Front Desk

· Recreating the past through living history techniques

· Assist NPS staff with inventories of museum collections

· Providing interpretive programming to the public about the history and cultures of Fort Larned

Minimum Requirements:

· High School Diploma/GED

· Applicants must pass a criminal background for both DOI and AmeriCorps eligibility.

· Must be 18 years or older.

· Must be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.

· Background in History

· Public Speaking Skills
