Summary/Objective:
The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) provides strategic leadership in advocacy, fund development, marketing, communications, branding, and community engagement. They will drive these efforts to support the organization's overall mission and long-term objectives, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
Job Competencies:
Key competencies for the Chief Communications Officer includes expertise in public relations, media relations, content creation, speech writing and delivery, and fund development. A demonstrated ability to craft and execute effective communication strategies is essential.
Job Proficiencies:
Proven ability to delegate and manage teams effectively, foster collaboration, resolve conflicts constructively, and negotiate to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated expertise in strategic problem-solving, with a focus on delivering high-impact results. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for ensuring alignment across all organizational levels. Additionally, proficiency in coaching and performance management to inspire and develop talent is required.
Education/Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Public Policy, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field (master’s degree preferred). Ten years of marketing and communication experience, with at least 5 years’ experience leading a corporate marketing department required. Managing fund development, and advancing public policy preferred.
Essential Functions:
Provides leadership and operational oversight for marketing, communications, branding, advocacy, fund development, and the community engagement functions of the organization.
Facilitates and oversees all community engagement strategies and activities focused on advancing the organization’s mission and vision including but not limited to advocacy, marketing, stakeholder communication, and creating an agency’s speaker’s bureau.
Develops and leads strategy to advance advocacy through public policy changes in support of the long-term community leadership vision.
Serves as the organization’s chief brand officer responsible for overseeing all activities necessary to ensure protection of the brand and consistent alignment of the brand to mission, vision, and values.
Creates, executes, and manages a fund development program to include fundraising and friend raising, grants, contracts, communication, and outreach.
Serves as an architect in setting the tone for internal and external communications in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.
Oversees the development and execution of external events and sponsorships of community events.
Leads crisis communications plan for the organization. Leads media strategies and outreach to increase earned media and positive publicity across a variety of mediums.
Develops and implements short- and long-range strategies and objectives for areas of responsibility in alignment with and support of the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic plans.
Represents the organization at various community, business, and civic functions to increase general visibility and awareness of Goodwill programs, services, and enterprises.
