The Indirect Tax Analyst will be primarily responsible for ensuring accurate sales and use tax accrual and remittance on Colgate and Hill’s sales and purchases. You will also review indirect compliance, including sales and use tax compliance and compliance for other indirect tax types.

You will also assist the Manager, Indirect Tax with special projects and implementation of business initiatives impacting tax, as well as support the tax exemption status of customers in sales tax exemption software (Certificate Manager) and customer inquiries.

The Analyst will be expected to work independently, with minimal supervision from management of daily tasks and maintenance activities. The Analyst should also have strong problem solving skills and the ability to effectively interpret data and reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee proper imposition of use tax on Colgate and Hill’s purchases! Includes the application of use tax principles and tax research to purchasing, analysis of data from various reporting sources, coordination with vendors and business stakeholders, and maintenance of tax determination systems. Ensure use tax accruals are appropriate.

  • Interface with and respond to various state and local tax auditors’ (sales and use, property, and income) questions/inquiries

  • Handle all customer, business stakeholder and vendor tax issues and inquiries escalated by other members of the tax team

  • Manage indirect tax compliance, including coordination and review of monthly sales and use tax returns and other indirect taxes/fees

  • Perform online tax research to ensure Company sales and use tax compliance, consult with tax counsel from within Colgate’s primary law firms and interface with professional tax consultants regarding sales tax questions/concerns

  • Manage customer exemption certificate status and respond to customer inquiries regarding sales tax

  • Assist Manager, Indirect Tax with special, discrete projects like reverse audits, software implementations, automation implementation/strategies, refund claims and tax recovery, securing of incentives and related compliance, and implementing business initiatives

Basic qualifications:

  • 1+ years of prior public accounting firm work experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting or a related field of study

  • Strong PC skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Google’s suite of products

  • Proven problem solving and analytic skills

  • Ability to perform tax research and apply tax principles to business operations

  • Proven attention to detail

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) certification

  • 1+ years of experience in indirect tax role

  • Experience with tax software products, enterprise systems, and data analytics programs (i.e. Alteryx)

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $64,000.00 - $80,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually

  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year

  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
