The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) role is an expanded perioperative nursing role and includes performing first assistant activities in collaboration with the surgeon and other team members.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Active communication with the surgeons and team members

  • Handling tissue and providing exposure

  • Using instruments and suturing

  • Providing hemostasis during surgeries

  • Practice at the direction of the surgeon in a controlled environment

Providence Medical Center is looking for experienced Nurses for our Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) role.

Variable Shift/Per Diem/PRN – 12hr – 12hr Weeks

Education and Work Experience

  • Current and valid state RN License. BSN Preferred.

  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.

  • ACLS Preferred.

  • PALS Preferred.

  • Five years experience in an acute care operating room in the scrub and circulator roles. Preferred competence in the first assistant role foropen heart, major thoracic and vascular surgery. Experience in the first assistant role for other specialties.

  • Completion of a recognized training program in an RN First Assistant Program.

  • Certification as an RN First Assistant within one year following meeting the required hours for certification
