Job Purpose Provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in nursing coursework while supporting the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan of the institution. Individuals may be assigned to teach registered nursing and/or practical nursing courses and must have experience working as a Registered Nursing in an Obstetrics (OB) setting. This position includes both didactic and clinical teaching.

Position Description

  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Plan and implement learner-centered instruction in ways that maximize student learning in both the didactic and clinical environments.
  • Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the department, division, and college assessment plans.
  • Adhere to KCKCC, KSBN, and ACEN established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of subject matter taught through professional development activities and/or on-going clinical practice when not required to be on campus.
  • Integrate available instructional technology to support student learning.
  • Advise and mentor students in collaboration with the nursing advisor.
  • Participate in the accreditation and approval processes for the Nursing Education department.
  • Attend and participate in division meetings, department meetings, in-services, committees, and college-sponsored events
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Nursing theory, practice, and trends.
  • Knowledge of current curricular content and education standards, including best practices in OB nursing.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated high-level nursing skills with experience in an OB setting.
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated time-management, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
  • Ability to promote higher order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.
  • Ability to work in a student-centered, team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task to meet multiple demands.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Current or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Kansas and Missouri.
  • A minimum of three (3) years full-time experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse in an OB setting.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master's degree in Nursing Education and/or Certified Nurse Educator.
  • Experience teaching didactic content in a nursing program. Experience teaching in a simulation laboratory/center.
  • Experience teaching students in an OB clinical setting.
  • Experience teaching on-line.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Work Schedule Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
