Position Details Job Code: SA030FTNMED Department: Student Health Center Division: Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Reports to: Student Health Center Nurse Positions Supervises: NA Location: Primarily Main Campus, but any location assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Job Purpose The Medical Assistant is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Student Health Center which include the efficient flow of examination and treatment of patients, managing student health information systems, and ensuring for excellent customer service.

Position Description

  • Performs clinical duties under the direct supervision of the Student Health Nurse. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or other appointments, assisting medical staff with examinations and procedures as defined on competency checklists, providing medical staff with timely and accurate communication about the patients results and issues, and assisting medical staff.
  • Performs clerical duties in the Student Health Center. This includes, but is not limited to, greeting and registration of patients, patient scheduling, managing phone and electronic message traffic, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and/or assisting medical staff, nurses, other interdisciplinary team members and support staff.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness of examination rooms in the Student Health Center. This includes but is not limited to, stocking assigned areas, maintaining supplies, and performing routine maintenance and safety checks of medical equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), appropriate state laws, medical care best practices, and appropriate College policies and regulations.
  • Assist the Student Health Nurse in the completion of monthly reports and co-curricular assessments duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Student Health Nurse and Dean of Student Services.

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the role of student health and wellness programs, services, and compliance at the community college level.

  • Must demonstrate an ability to work medium-paced student health center environment in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Must demonstrate a high commitment, compassion, and customer service to all patients and team members.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to accurately maintain medical records and ensure all required documentation is available in the medical record.
  • Must demonstrate customer service and critical thinking skills to solve problems and when to appropriately escalate patient care and services to the appropriate team member.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills. Must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices that promote social justice and equity.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of the organization's students, faculty, and staff.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience working in health services or ambulatory clinics.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Current medical assistant certification.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED certification.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Experience working within a community or two-year college setting.
  • Experience within a higher education institution working with a student population with a highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile population.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programs and services to address health disparities or stigma related to healthy practices.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

Work Schedule

Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
