The position will execute all analytical program operations conducted at remote system labs at the overall direction of the KC Lab. This position will be responsible for managing the remote lab through the use of Starlims and SOPs managed by the KC lab. The position will provide Tier 2 level support for analytical instrumentation at the remote system lab as well as other Magellan field labs within a geographical proximity including but not limited to coordinating preventive maintenance (PM), repairs, and service calls. The position will coordinate and manage all Statistical Quality Control testing as directed by ASTM 6299. This position will be responsible for continually auditing and reviewing SOPs and keeping abreast of changes to ASTM methods. The position will provide support for the required DOT maintenance and repair of the flow through cylinders used in testing NGLs.

Responsibilities

Analytical Testing Operations:

  • Performs a variety of analysis and tests of multiple product types including Crude, Refined and NGLs. The testing is done in the context of Analytical Program Worksheets built and managed through Starlims.

  • Performs ad hoc testing to support Research and Development projects directed by Quality Control or other Commercial departments.

  • Position will maintain a qualification standard on all methods by annual process managed through the KC lab.

Analytical Instrumentation:

  • Position is responsible for managing and executing on the current Laboratory Instrument and Apparatus Readiness Procedure (FFW-ADM-0716).

  • It is expected that this position will provide Tier 2 level support for instrument maintenance and repair. Tier 1 level should be accomplished by following standard troubleshooting protocols developed for each instrument or apparatus. Tier 2 support would entail maintenance or repair being performed at a level that would require additional specific training or experience with the equipment. The position would either complete the repair themselves or coordinate with a repair service to accomplish.

  • Manage all of the work authorizations with the various service providers for our instruments.

  • This position is expected to remain current with emerging technology. Regular involvement with industry groups and meetings is assumed.

Compliance/Lab Safety:

  • Maintains knowledge on current ASTM specifications, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations that govern the petroleum products testing environment.

  • Assures location testing audits are routinely performed.

  • Maintains and executes on the local Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP).

  • This position could act as the CHP officer for the remote lab location.

Inspection Services:

  • At the request of the Manager of Analytical Services this position will be required to collect samples from tanks or pipelines according the protocols established in ASTM D4057.

  • This position will be required to perform DOT required inspections on floating piston cylinders used for collection of NGL samples.

  • This position will maintain training on shipping Hazardous Materials

Training:

  • This position will be required to conduct training of field operations personnel on new benchtop equipment implemented in the field for normal pipeline testing operations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a qualified industrial or laboratory setting.

  • Technical diploma from a qualified instrument training institution or bachelor's degree in a physical science or chemistry.
