JOB SUMMARY
[]{#_Hlk163121826}The job duties of the Deputy I include but are not limited to perform general law enforcement duties in the protection of life and property within Geary County; to provide security at the Geary County Courthouse; to conduct investigations; to perform the duties of first responder; to enforce all federal, state, and local law resolutions; and to provide responsive, courteous and efficient service to County residents and the general public. Performs other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described below are indicative of what the Deputy I might be asked to perform. This job description is to incorporate any County Resolutions for the position of Deputy. This position description is not designed to list all tasks and responsibilities of this position. Geary County reserves the right to revise or change job duties as the need may arise. Law Enforcement. Provides Security to the Geary County Court House in order to preserve law and order. Provides a safe complex for Judiciary, staff and by overseeing of security procedures for the courthouse. Politely greet and direct all patrons entering and inform them of the screening process. Ensure legally restricted items are logged and stored properly. Conduct security patrols on foot around the courthouse. Report and record any unsafe conditions or suspicious activities. Monitor security cameras. Responds to a variety of calls and complaints in and around the Geary County District Court involving automobile accidents robberies, domestic disturbances, other misdemeanors and felonies, and citizen assistance calls. Conducts initial investigations and gather evidence. Contacts witnesses and make arrests. Assists and work with outside agencies on the apprehension of criminals and investigations. Transports prisoners to court and testify in court on related activities. Serves civil court processes and warrants. Completes reports and records. Inspects equipment for compliance with standards.
Investigations. Investigates felony crimes and misdemeanors to determine suspect(s). Prepares reports for presentation in court and testify in court. Locates and collects physical evidence, latent fingerprints, etc. Reviews cases for completeness and accuracy. Maintains a database of investigation case statistics. Prepares affidavits for search warrants and arrest warrants. Conducts interviews and interrogations. Searches for witnesses and suspects. Obtains statements and confessions. Conducts surveillance, check active areas for criminal activity. Investigates all county deaths classified as coroner cases to determine cause and manner of death. Takes both still and video photographs for evidence. Maintains and coordinates evidence supply room. Trains officers in investigative techniques. Conducts employment background checks. Initiates criminal investigations. Apprehends violent and non-violent offenders. Gives talks to civic organizations, etc.
Ancillary Duties. Patrols area lakes for fish and game violators. Provides security for Geary County courthouse. Captures stray animals. Serves as first responder to emergency situations until medical unit arrives. May be involved in additional specialized functions such as: hazardous materials, aircraft rescue, swift water rescue. Assists with jail bookings. Assists Sergeant as needed and directed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job su cessfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Certification through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center
Ability to obtain within 1 year of employment, and maintain throughout employment the following licenses, certifications, and training: radar, tazer, CPR, and first aid.
A valid Kansas drivers license.
Must reside within a 30 minute radius of worksite within 90 days of employment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and standards.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for VIN inspections.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
