JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Restorative Aide

Department: Long-Term Care Unit

Supervisor: Chief Nursing Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary function of this position is conducting a program of physical exercises for residents

in order to restore or maintain the residents highest level of physical mobility. The program of

exercises is determined by the consulting Physical Therapist and the LTCU Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Under the supervision of the LTCU Supervisor, and in coordination with the consulting

Physical Therapist, assists the residents in restorative care and Range of Motions

exercises and any other mobility related care.

2) When not involved with restorative care programs, assists other non-licensed personnel

on the floor with resident care.

3) Under supervision, assist with resident comfort and personal hygiene including:

a. Introduction of new residents to the environment.

b. Monitor physical and psychological condition of the residents as directed.

Report to Shift Supervisor any unusual changes.

c. Serve meals and assist with feeding as necessary.

d. Assist with resident comfort needs, turning residents and providing rubs.

e. Assist with resident toileting as needed.

f. Assist with resident ambulation and transfers.

g. Assist with putting residents to bed and getting them out of bed.

h. Assist residents in dressing.

i. Take weekly vital signs and weights of residents.

j. Answer call lights.

4) Assist with housekeeping and cleaning duties by:

a. Changing resident beds, straightening up resident rooms and microsepting

resident rooms.

b. Clean resident care equipment such as wheelchairs, lifts, utility room supplies,

and tub/whirlpool

5) Assist in clerical functions such as charting, and any appropriate incident reports and

investigations.

6) Maintain a professional public image and attitude toward residents, visitors, and staff at

all times.

7) Maintain resident confidentiality.

8) Attend meetings as appropriate.

9) Participate in continuing education programs as appropriate and available.

10) Maintain certification as a CNA and as a Restorative Aide as required by the State of

Kansas.

11) Use protective clothing/devices when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.

Utilize proper equipment and safety devices when moving/transporting residents.

12) Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is conducted in clean, well-lit rooms and areas throughout the facility. Stands, sits, lifts,

stoops, bends and pushes moving and caring for residents and/or equipment. May be required to

lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Involved with residents, personnel, families, visitors and

government personnel under all conditions and circumstances. May be subject to hostile and

emotionally upset residents and/or family members. May be required to work beyond normal

working hours, on weekends, holidays and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

Subject to falls, burns from equipment and odors throughout the workday. May be exposed to

infectious wastes, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B Viruses.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

Requires high school diploma or GED

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations

Certified Nurse Aide

Kansas Rehabilitative Aide Certification

Special Knowledge or Skills

1. Must be able to speak and write the English Language in an understandable manner.

2. Must be able to cope with the mental stress of the position.

3. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and support agencies.

4. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at

times hostile people within the facility.

5. Must have strong interpersonal skill, patience and a willingness to accept direction from

licensed personnel.

6. Must be able to function on a multi-disciplinary level and interrelate with various

professional disciplines. Must be able to help in the evacuation of residents.
