JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Long-term Care Certified Medication Aide
Department: Nursing
Supervisor Nursing Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the nursing supervisor for long-term care, assisting
residents with activities of daily living, resident comfort, and hygiene. Administers
medications to residents and documents in charts the administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Under supervision, assist with resident activities, comfort and personal hygiene,
including:
a. Introduce new residents to the environment.
b. Monitor, report and chart on physical condition of residents as directed.
c. Make rounds before shift change and during the shift.
d. Administer medications to residents and document the administration in
charts.
e. Check and order medication from pharmacy.
f. Assist with feeding as necessary.
g. Monitor resident hygiene, bathing and toileting functions as needed.
h. Monitor reside comfort needs, turning residents, and providing back rubs.
i. Participate in activities with patients as directed to fulfill psychosocial
needs.
j. Assist with putting residents to bed and getting residents out of bed.
k. Assist with transporting residents to and from activities as appropriate.
l. Assist with taking weekly vital signs and weigh residents.
m. Give and take report at shift change.
2) Monitor answering lights and assist aides by:
a. Changing resident beds.
b. Straighten up and microspect resident rooms.
c. Transport soiled linens to laundry, trash to dumpster. Dispense clean
linens to rooms.
d. Clean wheelchairs, lifts, utility room and whirlpool.
e. Transfer patients.
3) Assist with clerical functions by:
a. Fill out census report.
b. Count medications at shift change.
c. Document weekly nurses notes and monthly summaries.
d. Transfer orders and make copies.
e. Make medication cards.
f. Put new orders on Kardex order.
g. Document changes in physical and psychological condition.
h. Chart PRN medications on PRN sheet.
4) Maintain a professional public image and attitude toward patients, visitors, and
staff at all times.
5) Maintain patient confidentiality.
6) Attend hospital meetings as appropriate.
7) Participate in continuing education programs as appropriate and available.
DEGREE OF LATITUDE
Works under direct supervision, often with explicit instruction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is conducted in clean, well-lit, heated and ventilated rooms. May involve exposure
to communicable diseases, biologic hazards and unpleasant patient activities. Physical
demands include lifting, bending, stooping, moving patients, pushing and pulling
equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
Minimum high school diploma
Licenses Certifications or Registrations
Must maintain current licensure in the State of Kansas as a certified medication aide.
Special Knowledge or Skills
Requires an interest in working with elderly, patience, and willingness to accept direction
from others.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
One year of experience in a long-term care setting.
