Reno County Youth Care Specialist Female Only - Part-Time in Hutchinson, Kansas

Job Objectives:

Provide a safe environment for the youth to learn socially acceptable behaviors. This is done through supervision of the youth and teaching new ways of dealing with situations and people. Provide physical, medical, and emotional care to the youth while they are in the facility. Responsibilities will include maintaining proper supervision, interpersonal relations, and public social skills.

Job Competencies:

Monitor, document, and properly communicate the observed physical and mental health of the shelter youth. Supervise all of the youths activities and manage youth behaviors by using the facilitys behavior management program. Accurately complete all required and necessary records with legible handwriting, proper sentence structure, and correct spelling. Safely escort and transport, via facility vehicle, the youth to and from school, appointments, outings, and various activities. Be a positive role model for the youth by always demonstrating appropriate behaviors both on and off duty. Communicate and work as a team in a professional, respectful, positive and constructive manner. Consistently demonstrate regular attendance and good punctuality. Assist with facility maintenance and housekeeping. Assist in maintaining shelter cleanliness. Dictate and write incident reports. Work overtime hours when requested. Assist in meal preparation and meal clean-up. Teach and assist health and hygiene skills to youth, and assist in delousing and administer first aid, as needed. De-escalate out of control youth and physically restrain youth when necessary, respond to crisis and emergency situations. Inventory and document youth property. Communicate with family members to apprise them of situations with youth. Assist in training fellow staff members. Make and monitor phone calls for youth. Collect urine specimens and conduct drug screens or other tests. Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions. Back up detention employees during crisis situations and participate in emergency drills. Properly handle and dispose of bio-hazardous materials. Act as a liaison between social workers, schools, law enforcement, and other professionals. Complete filing for youth files and copy forms as needed. Testify in court as requested. Monitor use of razors and other sharp objects. Attend court hearings, administrative reviews, and evaluation staffings. Maintain shelter transportation vehicles including cleaning when needed. Conduct facility tours as requested. Compose and write termination summaries. Assist with school and classroom activities and help youth with homework. Act in a professional manner, complying with Reno County Youth Services code of ethics while cooperating with and assisting SRS, law enforcement, other agencies within the system, and parents. Maintain a secure and safe environment for youth and staff. Follow OSHA guidelines and comply with all county-wide and departmental policies and procedures and KDHE licensing regulations. Problem solve difficult or out of ordinary situations per policy, procedures, or seeking support of a supervisor. Process problems with co-workers and maintain open communication with co-workers as a team regarding decisions on daily routine as well as crises situations. Determine extent of crisis situation and summon additional backup if necessary. Resolve conflicts between youths. Reschedule appointment conflicts. Judgment calls on daily living issues and behavior management of youth. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed.
