Description: The Workforce Development Specialists (WDS) provides direct workforce placement services to individuals with disabilities to achieve success utilizing Vocational Rehabilitation and WIOA Title IB authorized services. The WDS consults with customers through face-to-face conferences, virtually, by phone and through written correspondence. The WDS works with customers to identify barriers and strengths in order to empower them to select appropriate resources and develop strategies related to their employment goals and self-sufficiency plans. The WDS is an hourly position reporting directly to the Coordinator.

  • Recruits, interviews, screens, determines eligibility, enrolls, and orients program participants in WIOA Title IB Adult and Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • Determines participants job readiness, training, placement and support service needs.
  • Provides participants with support services and/or makes referrals to other community agencies to resolve barriers to employment.
  • Helps participants establish and maintain career goals and make plans to achieve the career they desire.
  • Develop employment opportunities for participants.
  • Provides individual and group job search preparation and training to clarify and develop the habits and attitudes needed to be successful in the workplace.
  • Provide the following Vocational Rehabilitation Placement Services as authorized by VR Customized Placement, Job Preparation, Community-Based Job Tryout, Community-Based Work Assessment, Guided Placement, Job Coaching and Purchasing Supports.
  • Builds ongoing, one-on-one relationships with participants serving as an advisor to help the participant learn new skills and practice new behaviors.
  • Fosters participant self-esteem, motivation, integrity and personal responsibility.
  • Assists participant with essential employment activities.
  • Facilitates support of the participant through all steps of their education, training and work programs.
  • Maintains regular contact with participants, training providers and employers to obtain feedback on performance, resolve problems, assist with retention and provide additional training as needed.
  • Networks and maintains contact with representatives of workforce system providers and social service organizations to leverage additional funding and services for participants.
  • Provides appropriate labor market information on occupations in demand and opportunities in the local area to develop career/employment action plans.
  • Work with employers to identify staffing patterns, skill requirements, support needs, accommodations, training preferences and job descriptions which meet the needs of the employer and participant.
  • Coordinate participant service strategies with team members, vocational rehabilitation staff and department of corrections staff.
  • Prepares and educates employers on how to work with targeted populations in the most effective way.
  • Advocates for the participants in general by providing exposure and visibility within the employer community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
