Role:


Provides primary care to patients acting as an assistant to physicians in the clinic following established standards and practices.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


+ Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.


+ Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.


+ Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Review patient records.


+ Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.


+ Administers medications and injections according to physician direction. Sutures minor lacerations.


+ Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.


+ Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.


+ Maintains and reviews patients records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.


+ Triage patient telephone calls and provides consultation.


+ Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.


+ Performs related work as required.


Performance Measures:


+ Perform and complete physical assessment for each assigned patient.


+ Collaborate with physician regarding patient treatment plan.


+ Provide patient and family with education and information regarding diagnosis.


+ Carry out physician orders.


+ Respond to patient telephone calls before leaving each day.


+ Interpret and integrate diagnostic procedures.


+ Maintain a professional and positive attitude.


+ Observe clinic guidelines and policies.


Knowledge & Skills:


+ Experience: Two years to five years of primary care experience preferred.


+ Education: Equivalent to a college degree and a professional certificate or a graduate degree. Licensure as an APRN or PA is required. Can be new graduate who is credentialed.


+ Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.


Physical Requirements:


+ Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.


+ Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.


+ Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.


+ Requires full range of body motion and handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.


+ Requires exposure to communicable disease and bodily fluids.


+ Requires working under stress in emergency situations or working irregular hours.
