SUMMARY
Supervises the daily activities of the transmission engineering group and structural
design efforts related to transmission lines. Support strategic plans and objectives of
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation (Sunflower). Coordinate activities with other
departments and outside agencies.
Essential Responsibilities
Transmission Line Engineering
Supervise the transmission engineers in all aspects of engineering and on activities
engaging external consultants that support the engineering, procurement, and
construction requirements of transmission lines projects.
Ensure that the projects are identified, planned, approved, and implemented in support
of Sunflowers strategic goals.
Lead efforts necessary for engineering analysis, design, construction, and operational
commissioning of new transmission line projects and associated support facilities.
Ensure that produced engineering outcomes meet the required industry accepted
standards of development and have been produced following appropriate quality control
and quality assurance procedures for both internally and externally produced efforts.
Provide technical and professional leadership in the development of staff capabilities.
Assist engineering leadership in providing engineering support to Sunflower and
Member systems.
Standards
Ensure compliance with applicable American National Standards Institute/Institute of
Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ANSI/IEEE), North American Electric Reliability
Corporation (NERC) Reliability, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American
Society for Testing and Materials (ATSM), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
standards.
Supervision and Leadership
Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports regarding job performance. Conduct
annual performance appraisals in a timely manner. Participate in hiring and termination
decisions.

Ensure direct reports receive training and support in order to meet or improve their job
performance. Keep employees informed of work requirements, business conditions,
company policies, and other factors that impact their work performance and
environment.

Perform other tasks as assigned or required to support Sunflowers mission and

Prepare and oversee job cost estimates and track financial progress of projects.
Support contract development.
Assist in managing outage or storm restoration efforts on Members distribution systems
or Sunflowers transmission systems.
Oversee complex projects through completion.
Qualifications
Certifications and Licenses
Professional Engineer license is required.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution, preferably civil,
structural or electrical engineering, and eight years practical utility and/or utility
engineering consultant experience.
