The Admission Clerk is responsible for all incoming calls and greets patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner. Registers patients and enters patient information correctly.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


+ Answers in a courteous and professional manner all incoming calls and directs accordingly.


+ Greets patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner.


+ Registers all patients.


+ Must gather as much information from patient as possible and follow all rules concerning HIPAA, Medicare, and BCBS.


+ Files all insurance cards and other patient records daily.


+ Counts the money drawer in morning and in evening.


+ Distributes incoming mail.


+ Puts postage on all outgoing mail.


+ Writes receipts as needed for payments.


+ Puts payment notes on patient accounts.


+ Responsible to ready all outgoing mail


+ Responsible for the collection flow of the self-pay accounts and Payment contracts


+ Perform other tasks as may be assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:


Admission Clerk experience or background in general office work preferred. Ability to comprehend established office routines and policies. Learns quickly from oral and written instructions. Ability to perform mathematical tasks. Understand the ethics of confidentiality. Good organization skills and good work ethics, with tact and diplomacy. This is a position where the majority of the duties must be performed in a sitting position. Minimal lifting and carrying will be necessary. Ability to learn the Cerner software technology used for inpatient and outpatient admissions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Require full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, good hand-eye coordination, sedentary for extensive periods of time are required. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds. Normal corrected vision and hearing are needed. Must have the ability to work under stressful conditions and flexible work hours. There may be some exposure to communicable diseases and Blood Borne Pathogens.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Position requires manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment. Must be able to operate computer terminal and sit for long periods. Must have excellent verbal communication skills in dealing with public on a continuous basis. Ability to answer telephone under pressure with continuous pleasant demeanor. Ability to be able to work well under pressure. Must be able to work with confidential information. Appearance must be appropriate for office environment. Workweek will be based upon designated scheduled office hours for position. The admission area hours are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm (with various scheduling of co-workers) with either 30 or 60 minutes for lunch.


Ability to work a work week based upon normal work week of 40 hours. May be required to work overtime depending on staffing situations and on patient volume.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


This position requires patience, being courteous, and tactful with neat and friendly appearance. Requires the ability to communicate and relate well with Physicians and other Clinical staff. Must be efficient and conscientious at all times in delivering medical care services to patients. Must have awareness of patient confidentiality and be able to follow directions well from Physicians and other Clinical staff.


Be able to interact with patients/fa milies based on age-specific criteria as follows:


Infant: Ages 0-3 yrs. Pediatric: Ages 4-12 yrs. Adolescent: Ages 13-20 Yrs.


Adult: Ages 21-64 yrs. Geriatric: Ages: 65+ yrs.
