Provide tactical direction of the materials function within an individual business unit (plant). The incumbent will perform supervisory functions of a technical and administrative capacity to provide Materials support to the production supervisors and individual Business Unit Managers. This position is highly visible with the incumbent interacting daily with plant management while directing local teams in the plant to which they are assigned, to ensure best-in-class operations and results.
- MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY:
Perform daily and weekly audits for inventory accuracy
Set up processes to eliminate inventory discrepancies. Root Cause and address issues that arise
Establish and maintain 5s principles
Receives work order lists from planner and reviews for coordination with operations and stock management
Holds accountability for inventory, people and process
Organizes and maintains inventory areas for efficient material storage and handling, including labeling, stocking and organizing stock items on shelving
Establish and maintain 5s+1 principles
- FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
This position provides tactical leadership role to the materials unit. Successful individuals will posses knowledge of cost effective inventory principles and management. The position requires knowledge from previous experience in administering and supervising; exercising judgment in appraising situations in making decisions.
- BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
This position requires the knowledge of inventory cycles, consumption rates as well as the ability to recognize adverse trends – all derived from experience as a materials leader in a manufacturing setting.
- LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
This position will have exercise direct supervision over bargaining unit employees performing materials functions. The incumbent will exercise leadership over the daily activities and evaluate the performance based on plant metrics.
- PROBLEM SOLVING:
This position requires a keen ability to function in a self directed environment. Successful individual will possess, from prior professional experience, the knowledge and confidence to make autonomous decisions, yet the proper instincts to know when to escalate issues. This position will actively pursue implement means to improve efficiency of materials – directly impacting each of the Manufacturing Business Units
- NATURE OF IMPACT
This position is critical to the materials function with each plant. This role will contribute to tactical initiatives impacting: inventory accuracy / levels, process and procedure improvement & implementation, developing an enterprise wide rack labeling system, as well as the Lean and 5S+1 program.
- AREA OF IMPACT:
This role will interact daily with all facets of the manufacture process – having direct responsibility to the production supervisors in the materials units within the assembly, machine and fabrication shops. The individual in this role will direct the execution of the Materials Manager’s strategies as well as strategic corporate initiatives as they pertain to materials. Additionally, this position will have oversight of auditing, metric derivation, inventory placement and delivery as well as supporting training to materials group. This role will take an active leadership role in promoting employee safety in the materials processes and activities.
- INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
This role requires a diverse set of interpersonal skills. Communication audiences will vary from plant leadership as well as direct interaction with all levels of individual contributors and bargaining unit employees.
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or like field in addition to a minimum of 2 years of direct materials / operations experience. Experience in a production environment consisting of a low-volume / highly complex product will be sought. Knowledge and experience deploying continuous improvement tools such as KanBan, 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing are highly preferred
