HaysMed RN - ICU Unit (Full-time; Nights) in Hays, Kansas

Under the supervision of the nursing department’s management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice.

  • Checks all equipment for proper functioning such as cautery machine, suction machine and OR table

  • Arrange furniture according to use

  • Maintains clean OR table

  • Collect necessary stock and equipment

  • Help scrub nurse with setting up

  • Assist with counts and records

  • Assist the anesthesiologist in positioning the patient

  • Assist the patient in assuming the position for anesthesia

  • Anticipate the anesthesiologist’s needs

  • Reposition the patient per surgeon’s instruction

  • Apply restraints on the patient

  • Expose the area for skin preparation

  • Catheterize the patient as indicated by the surgeon

  • Perform skin preparation & clipper prep as necessary

  • Replenishes and records sponge/ sutures during procedure

  • Hands dressing to the scrub nurse

  • Helps remove and dispose of drapes

  • Helps to prepare the patient for the recovery room/ICU

  • Assist the scrub nurse, taking the instrumentations to the service (washroom)

  • Ensures that room is ready for the next case

  • Ensures SCIP measures have been met

  • Pre mixes drips

  • Primes lines

  • Obtains supplies form Cath Lab as needed

  • Assesses implantable device reprogramming

    Additional Duties:

  • Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient.

  • Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.

  • Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes.

  • Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes.

  • Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated.

  • Documents and communicates all required components of patient care.

  • Collaborates and cooperates with other members of the health care team in meeting the preventive, emergency, and restorative health needs of a patient in a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment.

  • Collaborates with the health care team to provide pre and post-operative care.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

Patient Interaction: Frequent

Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN required or must obtain within 4 years of employment; knowledge of general nursing theory and practice required; knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.

Certificates and Licenses: Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing; BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment; Certified OR Nurse (CNOR) preferred. As of June 1, 2016: ACLS certification required within twelve months of employment.
