The Respiratory Therapist completes various responsibilities, including: patient assessment, evaluation for appropriate therapy, consultation with other healthcare provider’s, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and education of the patient, family and public, implementation and troubleshooting of equipment and monitoring of patients. Reports to Cardiopulmonary Supervisor.
Provide standard and advanced cardiopulmonary procedures and modalities as ordered by physicians.
Provide services to all ages, from newborn to geriatric.
Conduct therapeutic procedures by utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology in all areas of the cardiopulmonary system.
Obtain physiological specimens (sputum and blood) and Interpret physiological data (Blood gas results)
Perform tests and studies of the cardiopulmonary system (EKG, Holters, Treadmill Stress Tests, and Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT’s)
Maintain records and communicate relevant information to other members of the health care team.
Use of medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases).
Performs the operation, maintenance and management of mechanical ventilator support and artificial airway care.
Perform deep suctioning of secretions, and the use of secretion removal assistive devices. (Bronchial-pulmonary hygiene)
Dispense pharmacological agents related to respiratory therapy procedures.
Performs Non-invasive respiratory support (CPAP and BiPAP)
Performs services and other duties, within scope or responsibility as required.
Provide cardiopulmonary care and collect, review, and evaluate all data to determine the appropriateness of the prescribed care.
Operate equipment as related to cardiopulmonary care.
Certificate of completion from an accredited Respiratory Care Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs. (CAAHEP)
Credentialed by the NBRC as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
State Respiratory Care Practitioner license by KSBHA.
Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification – must complete within 2 weeks.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - must complete within 3-6 months.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (P.A.L.S) – must complete within 3-6 months.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – must complete within 3-6 months.
