Equipment Operator II PW03 POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Equipment Operator II Department: Public Works Road & Bridge Exempt Status: Non-exempt Job Classification / Pay Grade: 13C Supervisor Title: Team Leader Direct Reports: N/A Summary This is a general road and bridge construction and maintenance position which operates light, medium and heavy-duty trucks (CDL), road construction and maintenance equipment. The position works on road construction and or maintenance projects and assists in processing and delivery of road materials. The position requires the operation of trucks and various types of specialized light, medium and heavy-duty construction equipment and is under the supervision of the Team Leader and Road Maintenance Supervisor. Definition and Examples of Work 85% Maintain grounds/land and roads of Finney County through equipment operation
Operate a variety of trucks, light and heavy construction equipment, maintenance machinery, and material processing equipment necessary for road construction or maintenance projects. This includes, but not limited to the operation of: semi- trucks, trailers, motor grader, loader, backhoe, skid steer, scraper, chip spreader, snow plow, and roller.
Repairs and constructs roadway surface failures and potholes; seals cracks in pavement, maintains secondary roads roadways, shoulders, and slopes grades; waters and rolls gravel; sweeps and cleans roads as necessary.
Operate machinery and equipment in a safe manner to process, move, load, and store road construction materials as directed.
Operate machinery and equipment to help construct and/ or maintain roads as directed, includes crack and asphalt repair.
Mow and clean ditches, ensure intersections are clear, and install and maintain clean culverts to allow for proper water flow. Clear trash from roadside.
Maintain, if applicable, an assigned maintenance section with a motor grader, tractor and mower attachment, or other vehicles and equipment as needed.
Set, install, and maintain clean culverts to allow for proper water flow.

Load and move screen product as needed.

Complete accurate daily paperwork as required for construction and/or maintenance activities.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication, and fueling and tire repair.
Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
Assist in maintaining a clean Road and Bridge shop.
Communicate potential hazards to the public to supervisor.
Attend training needed to perform the functions of the job such as mine safety training, OSHA, Hazmat. First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving
Perform manual labor in clearing ditches, hand loading equipment and tools, uses shovels, wrenches and other tools to achieve tasks.
Assist in other areas of the department as needed.
Maintains awareness of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment including properly wearing and using personal safety equipment.
Respond to change productively and complete other tasks as assigned.
Performs traffic control activities, as needed, and observes roadway courtesies. Follows safety regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing barricades and cones; reports safety hazards and traffic problems.
Assist various departments as needed.
15% Maintains, repairs, and services department vehicles, equipment, and facilities
Perform maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication, and fueling and tire re air; complete necessary documentation and maintain maintenance/service records as required for construction and or maintenance activities, equipment, and vehicles.
Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the Road and Bridge shop.
Maintain cleanliness of department breakrooms and bathrooms.

This position works independently and as part of a team to operate equipment and vehicles to facilitate road and bridge building and maintenance for Finney County.
This position is responsible for various work tasks that the supervisor will assign to the position along with limitations, requirements, deadlines, priority level, and the quantity/quality expected; supervisors may provide additional instructions for difficult or unusual assignments.
