Job Summary:

Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged carbon and stainless steel components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, rotary dryers, and structural building parts. Locally based at our fabrication facility in Fredonia, KS. While workweeks will normally be 40 hours with periodic overtime, we have an immediate, but short term need for welders willing to work up to 12 hour days, possibly including weekends.

Primary Duties:

Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques. Lays out positions, alines, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. Sets up equipment and welds parts, using primarily MIG welding techniques. May assemble parts by bolting and riveting. May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and handtools.

Minimum Qualifications:

Credentialed MIG welders preferred. Forklift experience desirable. Workers should be able to: Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked; Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; Look at flat drawings, pictures, and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with heights, width, and depth; See detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings; and work easily and skillfully with hands. Physically, workers must be able to: Lift and carry objects weighing no more than 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; Climb up on and balance on ladders, scaffolding, or stairs; See well (either naturally or with correction); Stand for long periods; Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to reach hard to get at work areas; and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects. Completion of apprenticeship program and certification at one or more levels may be required.
