Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Department of Pathology, US ARMY MEDDAC, Fort Riley, Kansas 66442. A Recruitment Incentive may be authorized if it's in the best interest of the Agency. Responsibilities Independently performs moderate and high complexity laboratory examinations and procedures. Maintains and uses lab instruments and equipment. Performs laboratory testing in each of the following areas: chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology. Performs microbiological testing including SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing, rapid step, rapid influenza, hem occult kits, and other rapid diagnostic kits. Performs a variety of microscopic, macroscopic, and chemical analyses in urinalysis. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with performing laboratory tests and examinations in the areas of chemistry, microbiologic, hematologic, and blood banking; operating and maintaining laboratory instruments/ equipment; and reviewing findings against established quality control values, quality assurance procedures and/or sampling or preparing reports of findings. OR Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of undergraduate-level education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Licensure/Certification: This position requires a certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD (HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), or Medical Lab Technician (MLT). For current U.S. military members, this position requires successful completion of an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and currently holding the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
