About the Position: This position is located at Dental Health Activity, Fort Riley, Kansas 66442.
Receives, disassembles, sterilizes, and inspects dental supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Stores items to preserve sterile conditions.
Tests operation of equipment on various monitoring systems for proper sterilization.
Compares test results with standard parameters and take corrective action when deviations exist.
Operates and adjusts dental equipment.
Assists the dentist in providing treatment to patients.
Monitors patients during treatment.
Educate patients on after care treatment.
Trains less experienced staff on sterilization techniques.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes decontaminating, preparing, sterilizing, storing and issuing of a full range of supplies and equipment used in clinics, experience assisting in general or specialized dental procedures to include making preparations and providing chair side assistance.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, dental, sterilization, medical, health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards of 42 CFR Part 75. They must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Equipment Preparation and MaintenancePre and Post Procedural InstructionSafety and Quality CareTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Generally, candidates meet the time-in-grade for the GS-05 level if he/she has not served on a temporary competitive appointment below the GS-03 level within preceding 52 weeks. Non-appropriated fund service, Non-General Schedule service, (e.g., WG) or combinations of certain other creditable service may be used to satisfy time-in-grade requirements when appropriate.
