U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Supervisory Librarian in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Summary About the Position: Serves as Librarian in the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library (CARL), a world class research facility for the study of military art and science at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and Army University (ArmyU). CARL also provides educational and recreational resources to the Fort Leavenworth community. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operation, maintenance and data integrity of core library systems that include the Integrated Library System (ILS) and associated resource discovery system. Act as CARL primary point of contact in utilizing a variety of technologies to provide the best possible experience for library patrons and staff. Coordinate implementation of new systems and products, as well as enhancements to current CARL systems. Oversee and manage collection development, acquisition, cataloging, and processing of materials for CARL. As the Chief, Technical Services, coordinates the activities of professional level librarians and library technicians. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED. OR A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the development of library policies and procedures; Identifying and/or analyzing potential technology solutions to improve library services; Selecting, procuring, or cataloging of library materials in various formats. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Leadership Technical Competence Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
