Army Installation Management Command Police Officer in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: POSITIONS MAY BE FILLED AT ANY LEVEL. The incumbent may be non-competitively promoted pending time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the next level/grade duties and completion of required training. The full performance GS-07 is received through the intervening GS-06 level.

Responsibilities

Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.

Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, and interview witnesses.

Collect and preserve evidence.

Conduct long and short-term investigations on criminal cases.

Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar and breathalyzer.

Operate National Crime Information Center terminal in accordance with federal and state laws.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To Qualify for the GS 05 level:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying basic security rules, regulations, practices and techniques to maintain order and protect life or property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). (Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.)

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position, such as Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Criminology or Police Science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages. To Qualify for the GS 06 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying laws and regulations, to law enforcement operations, practices and techniques; and responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. To Qualify for the GS 07 level:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying laws and regulations, to law enforcement operations, practices and techniques; assisting with law enforcement investigations by marking, collecting, and preserving evidence; and responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

If the position is filled at the GS-05 level, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to GS-06 pending time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next level/grade duties. If the position is filled at the GS-06 level, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to GS-07 pending time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next level/grade duties and required training. Incumbents at the GS 5 or GS 6 level must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General, IAW AR 190-56.
