Summary About the Position: Serves as Information Technology Specialist system administration and customer support maintenance services for Command and General Staff College Information Technology (IT) equipment, software, systems, interfaces and networks. Responsibilities Install, test, and prepare performance reports and recommendations on such equipment as microcomputers, servers, printers, scanners, etc. Evaluate IT hardware and software used by activities. Conduct studies of detailed capabilities of hardware or software to meet user needs. Detect damaged or lost files, optimizes disk management, measures system performance, controls system security, and/or extends system capabilities to support local requirements. Devise recovery plans for system failures. Re-image customer workstations as needed and resolves complex problems. Perform highly technical computer systems administration. Provide custom installation and maintenance of hardware and software. Investigate and resolve problems arising in the user operation of equipment/systems. Prepare and conduct training in network system operations. Serve as System Administrator for multiple servers in an Active Directory environment. Respond to a variety of failures to devise recovery plans for system failures. Provide support to activities on evaluating, installing, modifying, and using a variety of personal computer and server hardware and software to accomplish assigned functions. Demonstrate features of equipment and software in use and for possible applications. Assist users in configuring standard and unique software packages to meet specific needs. GRADE GS-11: Specialized Experience and Information Technology (IT) Competencies: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience troubleshooting and configuring unclassified and classified workstations; troubleshooting and configuring peripheral devices; providing customer support; and maintaining and updating an Active Directory. IT-Related experience (paid or unpaid) must demonstrate each of the following four competencies: 1. Customer Service- works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provides information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; 3. (NOTE: IT Competencies must be demonstrated in your resume) .-OR- Education: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
