Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC , Position Description Number D0100000 and is part of the 190th, FORBES FIELD, TOPEKA, KS, Kansas Air National Guard. Responsibilities As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-10, you will perform all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed or damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintain and stores the special equipment identified and assigned to the crash recovery mission. Serve on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions. Participate in flight crew debriefing, troubleshooting, repairing: and replacing components as required. Advise on and participates in the removal. rigging, and replacement of flight control surfaces, portable huffet and lavatory units. Utilizes a wide variety of technical gauges, instruments and tools such as bead breakers, micrometers, dial indicators. pressure gauges, torque wrenches, tensiometers, weight and balance testers, and inside and outside calipers to test. overhaul, rig and install major airframe components. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5 day workweek, then a 4 day workweek ( 8 nine-hour days and 1 eight-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80 hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E1 through E6 Desired Compatible Military Assignments: 2Axxx * Must be willing and able to cross train into the compatible AFSC GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing Rears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps: engine noise, heat blast, intake suction: rotating propellers, explosive munitions: electrical voltage, cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints and solvents. Physical effort involves climbing, stooping, bending, standing, stretching, and working, in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion. Lifts heavy equipment and components which weigh from 20 to 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds.
