This position provides independent consultation to individuals concerning environmental health issues and provides inspection services to ensure that businesses and property owners remain compliant with safety, health, and environmental regulations set forth by federal, state and local governments. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule. General daytime hours are Monday - Friday with some early mornings or late evenings.*What will you do?*As an EH Specialist you will be expected to travel to various businesses, homes, building sites, and land parcels to ensure that applicable environmental and sanitation rules are met. This includes inspection of schools, restaurants, swimming pools, sewage systems and wells. EH Specialists are also called to investigate health complaints such as animal bites, unsanitary living conditions, landlord/tenant complaints and improper disposal of waste.Inspections and investigations take place year round regardless of the outside weather conditions or if the property owner wants you there. Vermin, dirt, filth, dilapidated structures, and other undesirable conditions are routinely encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion involving long periods of standing, walking or crouching while conducting inspections.When not in the field, EH Specialists are creating reports, documenting the inspection and investigation results. Computer experience is important. We need an EH Specialist who is comfortable working with a diverse range of community members and county/state officials. In this role you will be making decisions which have significant financial impact to property owners, handing out citations or even making the decision to put down dangerous animals. Individuals who have the ability to maintain self-control in stressful situations such as interpersonal confrontations or emergencies, or defuse hostile or unstable situations are more successful in this role.*Minimum job and education requirements:*Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, life science, or related area.Valid Driver's License and safe driving recordAbility to occasionally work extended, evening, and/or weekend hours, and travel out of town for training and meetings, sometimes overnight.**
