Position: Medication Passer (CMA)
Supervisor: Charge Nurse, DON, ADON
Essential Tasks/Expectations:
1. Must be able to perform the essential tasks of a CNA in addition to the following.
2. Administers medication as stipulated by practice guidelines from the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
3. Documents properly and promptly on the MAR or TAR at the time the medication or treatment is administered.
4. Assesses and records appropriate VS needed for medication.
5. Administers medication safely: right time, right dose, right route, right drug, right resident, and right documentation.
6. Perform treatments within the guidelines of the scope of practice as a CMA.
7. Utilizes appropriate PPE during medication administration.
8. Obtains blood sugar levels for residents utilizing proper techniques per policy.
9. Fills out appropriate forms for returns to pharmacy and drug disposal.
10. Checks for outdated medication and pulls them accordingly on a daily basis.
11. Demonstrates proper use of gait belt and have gait belt on at all times while working.
12. Maintains required updates to keep certification current and provides the facility with proper proof of training.
13. Count narcotic cassettes and pills at beginning and end of shift to account for usage with on coming or off going med passer.
14. Documents use of PRN medication to include reason for administration, time of administration, and response of the resident to the medication intervention.
15. Assists the CNAs with all resident care duties as needed and as available without compromising primary duties.
16. Follow lift status at ALL times. Failure to do so will result in the disciplinary process.
