A Brief Summary of This Position:
The EHS Coordinator is responsible for providing environmental, health and safety support and ensuring that all practices are in compliance with Valmont policies and local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. This position is responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and its permitting applications. The incumbent will support the development and coordination of training programs in accordance with site and organizational programs.
Essential Functions:
Consult with all departments on use of equipment, fire prevention, health and safety programs
Assist in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations, and participate in hearings as needed.
Participate in the administration of workers compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims
Conduct regular safety inspection tours of facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated
Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs
Be responsible for OSHA reports and record keeping and maintain safety files and records
Devise, supervise, and coordinate mandatory and voluntary training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness
Conduct safety specific new employee orientation
Maintain all records for EHS functions for the site
Other Important Details about the Role:
This position reports to the Plant Manager
Coordinate and lead monthly safety meeting
Serve as a site contact for state and federal audits
Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, safety management or science-related field or Associates Degree with 1+ years relevant experience or High School diploma/GED equivalent with 3+ years relevant experience
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and general public
Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
Must have a high awareness of safety at all times
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
Minimum two years’ experience in a manufacturing or related environment
Ability and authorization to train employees in CPR/AED/First Aid
One year of experience in a safety and/or environmental related position
Previous experience training others
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is performed in both an office and factory setting, with approximately 60% of the time being spent moving around different areas of manufacturing and shipping areas. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. Travel as needed less than 5-10%. This position will support multiple shift operations.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
