Grounds Maintenance Seasonal Yard Worker
Job Description
Purpose: The Grounds Maintenance Seasonal Yard Worker maintains school
grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district
facilities. To accomplish these tasks, the Grounds Maintenance
Seasonal Yard Worker will work under the direction of the Grounds
Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsible to: Grounds and Outdoor Facilities Supervisor
Salary: Maintenance Hourly Rate Schedule, Level 1
Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt
Date: July 2019
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent, unless actively enrolled in high school.
2. Valid Kansas drivers license.
Essential Functions:
1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
a. Maintain school grounds in top condition by assisting permanent employees.
b. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
c. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
d. Ability to work with a team or independently to handle tasks as assigned.
e. Safely operate equipment and machinery as necessary.
f. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.
2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
a. Requires the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods.
b. Requires to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or
materials.
c. Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn and reach.
d. Requires the ability to climb ladders and balance above ground level.
e. Must be able to work outdoors in all environmental conditions.
f. Must be able to work in noisy and changing environments.
g. Must be able to work in and around dust, fumes and odors.
h. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
i. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
1. Assist in promoting the safety, health and comfort of students and employees on
school grounds.
2. Keep all district properties neatly mowed and trimmed.
3. Assist with seeding and fertilizing as necessary.
4. Collect trash and clean areas as necessary.
5. Prepare athletic fields for practices and games.
6. Assist in painting of parking lots and playground equipment.
7. Maintain all equipment (includes checking oil and fuel prior to operation).
8. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance
projects.
9. Utilize all applicable personal protective equipment.
10. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
11. Move equipment and materials within and between buildings.
12. Other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor, which are consistent with
the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
