Adjunct Instructor - Pep Band Director

Job Duties

The Pep Band Director is responsible to the Chair of Instrumental Music and will oversee the following:• Planning and execution of rehearsals, including possible pre-season rehearsals• Planning and execution of performances at home football and basketball games (transportation of people and equipment, set-up of ensemble, performing when appropriate, etc.)• Planning and execution of performances at concerts and community events.• Possible planning and execution of performances at tournaments and bowl games, including potential out-of-town travel.• Communication with the Athletic Director as appropriate regarding Pep Band performances at athletic events.• Communication with the Chair of Instrumental Music regarding the role of the Pep Band in furthering the mission of the Instrumental Music Department, as well as the College.• Selection and ordering of literature for the Pep Band• Ordering and distribution of Pep Band apparel• Maintaining of grades for students• Maintaining records as appropriate (attendance, inventory, etc.)• Possible instruction in private lessons, depending on instructor qualifications and student need

Required knowledge and skills

General time commitments:• Meetings and rehearsals: 2-4 hours per week, during the day on Wednesdays• Athletic events:o Football games – 6-7 Saturday afternoons/evenings 4-6 hours each.o Basketball games – approximately 12 events on various evenings or Saturday afternoons 4-5 hours eacho Parades (non-marching) and community events – 3-5 performance opportunities. 2-3 hours each

Required experience

• Three years of teaching or directing, including directing of athletic bands

• Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion expertise• Five or more years of teaching or directing, including directing of athletic bands

Required educational background

Minimum qualifications:• Master’s degree with at least 18 hours in music

Preferred qualifications:• Master’s degree in Music or Music Education
