What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Fixed Equipment Engineer will be responsible for optimizing static equipment reliability & mechanical integrity. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance, enhance asset reliability, and minimize downtime by conducting inspections, analyzing data, producing repair plans and providing subject matter technical expertise.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • The role requires technical authority on fitness for service of equipment & deep understanding of risk management

  • Managing a wide range of fixed equipment types, sizes, and ages within the facility, each with its own unique maintenance requirements and challenges

  • Knowledge of best-in-class inspection technique and technologies is required

  • Substantial knowledge/interpretation of engineering codes, which are continuously updated, is required

  • Working with engineering consultants and external vendors in support of capital projects and mechanical integrity evaluation.

  • Responding to fluctuations in market demand, pricing, and competition that may influence investment decisions and asset management strategies

Engineering

  • Manage equipment fitness for service to improve availability & maintain mechanical integrity of equipment

  • Work with vendors concerning equipment issues, technology issues, failure problems, and quotes on equipment used in some projects.

  • Review, modify, and approve pipe and equipment specifications for repairs or capital projects

  • Work with 3rd party service providers to ensure procedures used in welding and repairs meet engineering code with specific requirements of our material and condition

  • Participate in design reviews, hazard assessments, and project initiatives related to fixed equipment

  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations effectively

Maintenance Engineering

  • Support reactive and corrective maintenance repairs; including temporary repairs. Responsible for plan creation through field execution

  • Collaborate with operations, safety, and maintenance teams to prioritize and execute maintenance activities

  • Develop and implement maintenance plans, repair strategies, and corrosion mitigation measures for fixed equipment assets

  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting equipment issues and implementing corrective actions

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred. Professional Engineering registration is preferred upon eligibility.

Experience: This position requires 7+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering in the petrochemical, chemical, or refining industry

  • Demonstrated ability in the practical application of the requirements of 29CFR 1910.119 regulations, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31 series Piping Codes, and ANSI/NB-23 National Board Inspection)

  • Knowledge of risk-based inspection, equipment design, fabrication, repair codes, corrosion, damage mechanisms, and materials. This includes: Working knowledge of API 510, 570, 571, 572, 574, 576, 580 and 581 codes or recommended practices

  • Coordination/consultation with site maintenance, operations and project group in the delivery of improved fixed equipment reliability & mechanical integrity

  • Develop and/or revise procedures relating to inspection, repair, and maintenance as required

  • Development of Fitness for Service inspection plans

  • Experience working with 3rd party engineering consulting firms who specialize in engineering evaluations

  • Solid experience in facilitating Root-cause Analysis and corrective actions
