POSITION SUMMARY
Implement and deliver nursing care according to patients assessment and care plan. Oversees activities of the certified nurse aide or licensed practical nurse.
RESOPNSIBILITIES
- Conduct and document initial observation and assessment in a timely fashion. Document ongoing assessment based upon patient needs.
- Develop the nursing care plan in coordination with other health care team members, based upon identified needs and established standards of care.
- Implement nursing activities according to identified patient needs and according to established standards of care.
- Maintain competence in skills required by this position including, but not limited to, IV administration, obstetric procedures, cardiac monitoring, respiratory treatments, and basic life support techniques.
- Maintain accurate and concise documentation to reflect the condition of patient, interventions, and patients reaction to interventions.
- Explain specific procedures to patients and obtain consent as appropriate.
- Provide education for patients and family according to identified needs and established standards of care.
- Assist with discharge planning.
- Receive physicians orders, transfer orders to appropriate forms, submit dietary request, process as charges as appropriate.
- Monitor floor stock and supplies. Notify appropriate departments of need for replenishment.
- Maintain a professional public image and attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff always.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Attend hospital meetings as appropriate.
- Participate in continuing education programs as appropriate and available.
- Must have the ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Must be able to accept direction from supervisors and constructive criticism.
DEGREE OF LATITUDE
Must frequently exercise independent judgment and be capable of applying his/her knowledge of nursing without guidance from others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is conducted in clean, well-lit rooms. May involve frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biologic hazards, and unpleasant patient activities. Physical demands include bending, stooping, moving patients, pushing, and pulling equipment. Stress level may be high.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
Must maintain current licensure by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Neonatal Resuscitation desirable.
Special Knowledge or Skills
Requires strong interpersonal skills, ability to exercise independently. Must be able to work under high stress levels.
Prior Experience
Prior nursing experience in a hospital setting desirable but not required.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
One-year prior nursing experience in a hospital is highly desirable. ACLS preferred.
